Allison Janney, Jeff Bridges, and Jesse Eisenberg will be joining the voice cast for the latest Despicable Me spin-off, Minions and Monsters.
The call sheet will include Christoph Waltz, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan and “South Park” co-creator Trey Parker.
A prequel to 2010’s Despicable Me and a sequel to 2022’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, this latest adventure is set in 1920s Hollywood as a group of lovable highlighter-yellow henchmen struggle to find the starring role in a monster movie. Described as “mischievous, silly, and completely true,” the story depicts how the Minions conquered the entertainment industry and became movie stars…but (as we all know) before they could band together to save Earth from mayhem, they lost everything and unleashed monsters on the world.
The third Minions movie from Universal and Illumination will be directed by Pierre Coffin, who directed the first three Despicable Me movies and the first Minions series. He is also the voice of the Minions.
“Minions have always had a great spirit of destruction, and Minions & Monsters is full of irreverence and comedic mayhem,” said Illumination founder Chris Meledandri. “Pierre and his Illumination team brought a level of artistry to this film that excited me throughout production. The voice cast is full of extraordinary talent. The film’s story is unexpected and fun, but perhaps the sweetest surprise is how Minions & Monsters serves as a celebration of film, its origins, and the comedians who were the original inspiration for these adorable boys.”
“Minions & Monsters” is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 1st. The film follows the blockbuster success of 2024’s Despicable Me 4, which earned $972 million worldwide. For more than 15 years, the series has generated more than $5.6 billion in box office revenue worldwide, establishing itself as the highest-grossing animated series.
