Carlos Ponce has joined the cast of the new indie drama Hurricane Seasons, which is currently in post-production after filming in New York and Puerto Rico.
Ponce joins Tony Award-nominated actress Justina Machado (One Day at a Time, Matlock, Pulse) in a predominantly Latinx cast. Comedian Aida Rodriguez. Alicia Pascual Peña (“Bel Air,” “Save by the Bell”). Elvis Nolasco (“The Godfather of Harlem”). and Jerry Miner (“Abbott Elementary School”).
Directed by Nicole Gomez Fisher (Sleeping with the Fish, Good Egg) and written by Xavier Ortiz, the film is set in the aftermath of a hurricane, and follows a Brooklyn artist (Rodriguez) and his daughter (Pascual Peña) as they embark on a road trip across Puerto Rico with their terminally ill matriarch as a last wish, only to uncover deep family secrets. I thought everyone knew about the adventurous side of “Abuela.”
Ponce will play Ivan, a former lover played by Rodriguez.
Producers on the project include Gomez Fisher, Ortiz, Rodriguez, Anthony James Faure and Nadia Barbarossa.
Ponce, a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, is known for her film and television roles such as Couples Retreat, Murder Mystery 2, Julie and the Phantoms, 7th Heaven and Beverly Hills 90210, as well as lending her voice to hit films such as Rio and Ice Age: Collision Course. He most recently played Esteban Marquez in the Telemundo drama series “Velvet: El Nuevo Imperio.”
He has also released six albums and earned worldwide accolades, including Best Pop Album at the 1999 Billboard Latin Music Awards and three top hits on the Latin Billboard charts.
