A potential “Star Wars” project titled “The Hunt for Ben Solo” has been shelved for 2021, with fans rallying to ask Disney to reconsider its decision by erecting a new billboard in New York City.
Days after “Star Wars” fans paid for a flight to hang a banner reading “Save Ben Solo” over Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif., the Collider reported that a sign had appeared above Carlo’s Bake Shop in the 1500 block of Broadway between 43rd and 44th Streets. The sign read: “Dear Adam. There really is no one left. Hope is alive. Ben is alive! #THBS.”
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Adam Driver spoke about the development process for “The Hunt for Ben Solo” and working with director Steven Soderbergh. The film will follow Ben Solo’s journey to find redemption, following the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The screenplay was edited by Soderbergh and “Logan Lucky” screenwriter Rebecca Brandt, and Scott Z. Burns later wrote the screenplay.
“I’ve always wanted to do Star Wars again,” Driver said. “We’ve been talking about doing the next one since 2021. Kathleen[Kennedy]contacted me. I always said, ‘If you have a great director and a great story, it’s going to happen.'” I loved that character and loved playing him. It was called “The Hunt for Ben Solo” and it was really cool. But now that it’s gone, I can finally talk about it. ”
In an interview, Driver revealed how the script was received and how the project was canceled. “We submitted the script to Lucasfilm and they loved the idea. They completely understood our angle and why we were doing it,” Driver said. “I took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo lived. That was it.”
Soderbergh commented on the Driver reveal on his Bluesky account, confirming the project’s existence. “Just so you know, I don’t like lying about the existence of THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO, but I really needed to keep it a secret…until now!”
“It was really fun making the movie in my head,” Soderbergh added. “It’s a shame that the fans won’t be able to see it.”
