South Korean content company Showbox has partnered with Thailand’s M Studio in the development of Thai film co-productions under a newly signed memorandum of understanding.
This strategic partnership is between Showbox and M Studio, a leading Thai film production and distribution entity that is part of Major Cineplex Group, which operates Thailand’s largest movie theater chain.
The two companies will cooperate in many aspects of co-producing Thai films, including financial investment, personnel exchanges for both production staff and cast, and distribution initiatives across domestic and international markets.
The partnership also includes provisions to adapt Showbox’s intellectual property to Thai film production. The companies plan to announce initial projects and production schedules at a later date.
M Studio has established a commercial presence in Thai films, especially in the horror and action genres. According to the report, the company currently has a 54% market share in Thailand’s box office revenue from 2024 to 2025. M Studio’s notable releases include the Whispers of Death trilogy, which grossed over $50 million at the Thai box office.
The Bangkok-based company churns out 10 to 15 films a year, establishing itself as a major force in the Thai film industry. The company’s vertical integration (from production to exhibition through Major Cineplex’s network of theaters) provides comprehensive control over marketing and theatrical release.
M Studio’s productions include the thriller “The Last Shot” directed by Petipong Nakton, the racing comedy “Jazz the Racing”, the latest installment of the popular action drama series “Nakey 3”, the comedy-action hybrid “Liam Fighting Angel 2”, the biographical drama “Bit by Bit”, the action thriller “God’s Skin” and the drama comedy “Lion Dance Girl”.
Showbox will feature the hit comedy-drama “The First Ride” starring Kang Ha-neul and Kim Young-kwang and directed by Nam Dae-joon. “White Blast” is a mystery thriller directed by Hong Eui-jeong and Park Sun-woo. “Sleep No More,” a body horror directed by Edwin and starring Rachel Amanda, Lutesha, and Iqbal Ramadan. Romance drama “Once Upon a Time” directed by Kim Do-young and starring Koo Kyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young. Action thriller “Colony” directed by Yeon Sang-ho, starring Gianna Jun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, and Shin Hyun-bin.
