Sophie Turner has opened up about becoming a mother in her early 20s.
The Game of Thrones alum, 29, made some rare comments about motherhood to her daughters Willa, 5, and Delphine, 3, with ex-husband Joe Jonas in a new interview with The Guardian published on Friday, January 16.
Turner, who welcomed Willa at 24 and Delphine at 26, reflected on the slowdown in her career while starting a family with ex Jonas, 36. “It’s been really good. I don’t worry about my biological clock or anything like that,” she told British media.
The British actress moved to America while dating Jonas. The two started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2017, and married in 2019. Ms Turner returned to the UK following her divorce in 2023.
Reflecting on her “hiatus” from acting at this time in her life (which coincided with the end of Game of Thrones in 2019), Turner told the Guardian: “I’ve been playing characters for so long that it felt like a good break to focus on myself.”

“It’s been great to nest and be at home, but the flip side of that, and it wasn’t because of COVID, is that this was a big break in my career,” Starr said. “And in a way, I had to rebuild. I let it stagnate a little bit, not realizing how important momentum is in a career.”
In the same interview, Turner, who is leading Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series, also reflected on portraying love on screen before experiencing it in real life.
“What’s really important as an actor is to live a life that gives you experience that you can use,” said the star, who was just a teenager when he shot to fame as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. “I remember having to pretend to be in love before I could fall in love. I thought, ‘Okay, let’s try this.'”
“And all of a sudden, when I fell in love for the first time, I knew what it felt like,” she continued. “That’s part of the job: sitting with the discomfort and being able to work through it.”

The mother of two keeps most of her personal life private. But since her headline-grabbing divorce from Jonas (the former couple reconciled in 2024), she has made several comments.
The actress recently said that she never wanted to leave the UK again after returning to the country following her divorce.
Last year, Turner spoke candidly about why she prefers living in her home country: “I feel very comfortable here. I don’t want to move again,” she told Flaunt magazine.
“Living in America, I never realized how much I needed friends and family and how essential they were to my health until I was away from them,” she continued at the time. “I came away with a lot of gratitude for them.”

Turner, who turns 30 in February, also made some rare comments about motherhood on CBS Morning earlier this month while reflecting on her upcoming milestone birthday.
When asked what would be on her bucket list for the next 10 years, the actress said she would like to “work a lot” but also find time to enjoy “a little peace and quiet.”
“I’m really looking forward to spending time with the kids,” Turner added. “Going to the playground, taking them to museums. I’ve entered a really calm period in my life.”
