Ahead of Hollywood’s big night, on SNL’s “Weekend Update,” “conservative commentator” Tucker Carlson, played by Alex Moffat, spoke about “liberal politics influencing the awards too much.”
“Why don’t we talk about ‘Sinners?’ Yes, ‘Sinners,'” Moffat’s Carlson said when asked for his thoughts on this year’s major picture nominees. Really, why am I not surprised? Sorry, we no longer go to church, but to “sinners”. That’s the rule. That’s my goal now. ”
He went on to take jabs at the rest of this year’s nominated films, including “Hamnet.” “Because we’re not allowed to say ‘Hamlet’ anymore. They took the ‘L’ and called it ‘gbtq.'”
Are his alt-right views “Bugonia”? “I guess straight women aren’t allowed to grow hair anymore,” he said, nodding to Best Picture nominee Emma Stone’s shaved head. “They have to shave their heads, not their armpits. And am I supposed to be attracted to that? No, oh! Don’t look at my chest, look at my scalp.”
He then mentioned “One Battle After Another,” which leads this year’s nominations along with “Sinners,” saying, “What is this? What’s going on? I’m just asking, but I haven’t seen that movie.”
The segment began with Michael Che and Colin Jost reading jokes about Donald Trump’s war against Iran, including one about a possible drone attack on the Oscars ceremony. “The FBI has reportedly warned California police that Iran may retaliate by launching drones at high-profile targets on the West Coast…Oscars tomorrow on NBC!”
