“Saturday Night UK” targeted a number of celebrities in this week’s fake news segment “Weekend Update,” and one particularly spicy joke was a reference to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s suicide.
“It has been revealed that meth billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is building a bunker on his property in California,” said Weekend Update co-host Ania Mariano. “And I hope he uses that bunker exactly the same way Hitler did,” said a shocked voice from the live audience.
Hitler infamously shot himself in his bunker in 1945, realizing that Germany had lost World War II.
Others who received contrived headlines from Mariano and co-presenter Paddy Young included Donald Trump, Keir Starmer and BBC DJ Scott Mills, who was sacked last week in connection with historic abuse allegations involving a teenage boy. “The big news in the media is that DJ Scott Mills was fired from the BBC this week after police searched the Radio 2 presenter’s hard drive and found over 100 terabytes of decent music,” Young said.
Tiger Woods, who crashed his car last week on suspicion of drunk driving, was also cited. “Tiger Woods had two opioid pills in his pocket, according to a police report at the scene of a car crash in Florida last week,” Young said. “Woods claimed he only put it in his pocket because he didn’t have enough blood flow.”
The segment also included a guest in the form of a fake Love Island cast member complaining about contestants being replaced by “AI-generated fruit” in the show’s latest season, and Jack Shepp inexplicably appeared as an influencer Dormouse.
The third episode of “SNL UK” will be hosted by Riz Ahmed and feature musical guest Kasabian. The first episode recorded 226,000 viewers, but the second episode saw a decrease of 21,000 viewers.
