Miles Teller played former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a “Saturday Night Live” cold open that poked fun at the New York mayoral debate.
“You all know me. I got through the coronavirus. And yada yada yada, honk, honk, squeeze squeeze,” the teller Cuomo said, referring to Cuomo’s sexual harassment allegations, imitating a hand-wringing motion. “Anyway, I’m back. I’m a born and raised New Yorker. I love it here. I know this city like a woman’s back.”
The segment also featured Ramy Youssef and Shane Gillis, who play Cuomo’s fellow mayoral candidates Zoran Mamdani and Curtis Sliwa, respectively. Outside in the cold, Teller and Gillis repeatedly insulted Mamdani by name, at one point calling him “Zolter Rob Zombie.”
Kenan Thompson, who moderated the debate, asked the candidates, “You’re all running for mayor of New York. So my question is, why do you want the worst job in the world?”
“As we all know, as soon as you’re elected mayor, everyone in the city is going to hate you. And in that sense, I’m already one step ahead of the game,” Cuomo responded to Teller.
The cold open parodied several moments from the New York mayoral debate, including Mr. Sliwa’s random anecdotes — like his story of being shot multiple times inside a yellow cab.
When asked about his message to undecided voters, Mamdani, played by Youssef, looks straight into the camera as his heart flashes and says, “My message is this. I know you feel guilty. Why don’t you vote for me? Why don’t you just hit me with the ballot box?
“Mamdani, you were warned that this is not your TikTok forum,” Thompson replied.
