French production and distribution company SND has entered into a partnership with Salau Morissette, the international distributor of Jacques Deray’s 1969 cult classic La Piscine (The Swimming Pool), starring Alain Delon, Romy Schneider, Maurice Ronet and Jane Birkin.
Under the agreement, Saloud Morissette will represent theatrical, festival and non-commercial distribution rights in all territories where they are available and will facilitate the film’s international distribution.
The partnership will support select film programming, international festival releases and Cinémathèque screenings, “ensuring that Dray’s masterpiece continues to resonate with modern audiences and new generations of film fans,” said Saraud-Morissette.
In this film, Jean-Paul (Deron) and Marianne (Schneider) indulge in their mutual passion while renting a friend’s luxurious villa in the south of France. When a friend (Lonette) and her daughter (Birkin) unexpectedly arrive, conflict and anxiety come to the fore, and things take a sinister turn.
Director Tharrow Morissette said, “I am truly honored to be entrusted with such an iconic and timeless film as “La Piscine.” Beyond its legendary cast and sun-drenched Riviera setting, the film speaks a universal language of desire, jealousy, and power, and its themes remain as sharply contemporary today as they were in 1969. We are excited to work with SND to bring this treasure of European cinema to new audiences in territories where theatrical and festival rights remain, and to breathe new life into this film through festivals, cinematheques and selected theatrical screenings around the world. ”
SND is one of France’s top distribution companies and has previously released major titles such as Twilight, Divergent, Iron Man, Now You See Me, La La Land and Conclave. It also sells new films internationally, with recent highlights including Two Is a Family, Asterix: The Secret of the Potion, The Jungle Bunch, It Happened Monday and Yves Saint Laurent.
Salaud Morsset is an international sales and distribution company known for its strong portfolio of short films, including Jonathan Glazer’s The Fall and Strasbourg 1518 and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Nimic. Its feature films include Mahdi Freifel’s playwright debut Into the Undiscovered Land (Cannes Directors’ Fortnight), Ondrzej Provaznik’s Broken Voices (Karlovy Vary), and Marie-Elsa Suguardo’s Silent Rebellion (Venice). In 2024, Morissette also signed a major deal with the Wim Wenders Foundation for a catalog of 25 films, including Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire.
