Bad Bunny kicked off season 51 of “Saturday Night Live,” calling his upcoming gig the Super Bowl halftime show headliner and a right-wing rebound in the announcement.
“I’m very happy,” he said of the opportunity. “And I think everyone is happy about it, even on Fox News.”
“SNL” performed a supercut of the clip from a conservative news channel. This has brought special attention to Bad Bunny’s recent comments that criticised the NFL for booking a Spanish artist and not playing the US on his latest tour due to fears related to fans encountering ice. But instead of airing news clips of Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity, “SNL” cuts up the comments of conservative anchors, saying, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician and he should be the next president.”
Bad Bunny then makes a sincere statement in his native language and thank everyone who is truly excited about his upcoming Super Bowl performance. “Especially, all the Latinos and Latinos in the US world who have worked to open doors, spoke in Spanish. “It’s more than a victory for me, it’s a victory for all of us. Our footprints and contributions in this country can’t take it or erase it.”
Then back to English, Bad Bunny said, “If you don’t understand what I said, you have four months to learn.”
The monologue also featured a special guest, “SNL” favourite John Ham. Bad Bunny featured a clip of the ham dance at one of his recent concerts before the camera cut the Studio 8H audience into ham, dressed in button-up shirts, sunglasses and bucket hats.
After the landmark’s 50th season, “SNL” returned on October 4th with Bad Bunny and musical guest Doja Cat. On October 11th, Amy Poehler returned to Studio 8H to host alongside a role model from Music Act, and on October 18th, Sabrina Carpenter will double as a host and music guest.
Ahead of the new season, “SNL” added a handful of new cast members and writers to feature many familiar faces that started out from the show. Heidi Gardner ended the series after eight seasons, and Ego Nwodim announced the exit after 7am. Also, don’t destroy John Higgins as Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim and Martin Helihee will move on to the writing crew and Ben Marshall will join the main cast. New cast members include Jeremy Calhan, Cam Patterson, Veronica Slow Kouzka and Tommy Brennan.
