Sidney Sweeney went far to fully embody female boxer Christy Martin in a powerful new biopic church.
Following the film’s world premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 5th, Sweeney, 27, recalled the physical demands of her playing the athlete called “the best boxer in the world.”
Standing next to Martin, 57, Sweeney said, “I trained a couple of months ago before I had a boxing coach. I had a weight trainer, a nutritionist, I trained three times a day, and trained while filming.”
“And there were a lot of Chickfil A,” added director David Mikodo. Sweeney added that her meals also consisted of “many smackers, many milkshakes, many protein shaking.” “But it was incredible to be able to fully embody such a powerful woman,” she concluded.

The first audience to watch Christy gave the film a standing ovation, eliciting an emotional response from Sweeney.
“As you can say, she’s such a special and incredible person, and her story deserves to be told,” the Euphoria Emmy candidate told the crowd, fighting back tears. “Christie, you’re absolutely amazing, and I’m a great honor,” she told the former professional boxer.
“It was a dream to be able to have her by my side during this process, but then it’s just scary again,” she said. “You’re like, ‘Oh my goodness, we’re doing this in front of her.’ ”

Following a enthusiastic reception in Toronto, Christie will make her theatre debut on November 7th. He co-written the script with MyCord and Katherine Fugate and Mirara Fawkes.

On the red carpet before the premier screening, Martin told people it was “amazing” to share such an experience with someone other than your star. “It was one thing to be involved in the Battle of Tyson,” she said. “Being at the premiere with Sydney Sweeney is another thing.”
In July, Black Bear photos shared Sweeney’s first official photo as Martin. The distributor will release Christy in theaters on November 7th.
