Sippy Films, the Indian production company behind cultural touchstone ‘Sholay’, is being reinvented as a character IP-led studio with support from Kuberans Tech Ventures Private Limited.

This strategic investment, which closed at an undisclosed valuation, will enable the studio to expand its library of legacy intellectual property while developing new original projects. Kuberans was co-founded by Jeet Wagh.

Under the management of Shehzad Sippy, the company is transforming its approach to asset management including ‘Sholay’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ and ‘Shaan’. These titles maintain cultural relevance across generations and platforms. This restructuring aims to thoughtfully evolve these IPs across formats.

“We are currently focused on developing new IP and select legacy IP in film and animation formats,” said Shehzad Sippy. “Kuberans’ commitment allows us to take a long-term, competitive approach in building Sippy Films into a leading character IP studio. Our goal is to build a sustainable studio model that allows our stories, characters and worlds to evolve thoughtfully across formats and generations.”

The deal represents a significant institutional investment in a traditional Indian studio at a time when the entertainment market is changing across platforms and formats. Kuberans Tech Ventures operates as a sector agnostic investment firm with interests in media, technology and education. The company also founded Ideabaaz, a national entrepreneurship platform backed by Z Network.

“Coming from a media background, we deeply understand the long-term value and untapped potential of iconic intellectual property,” said Jeet Wagh, Director, Kuberans Tech Ventures. “At a time when the entertainment market is rapidly evolving across platforms and formats, legacy IP becomes even more powerful when approached with the right intent and structure. At the same time, building new IP alongside these legacies enables a balanced, future-ready creative pipeline.”

Wag added: “We are truly optimistic about the future of Sippy Films and believe now is the right time to build with patience, purpose and long-term belief.”

Sippy Films represents one of India’s most prestigious production companies and its catalog includes several landmarks in Indian film history. The studio’s current transformation aims to establish a modern operating structure centered around character-driven intellectual property.
