Newcomers for Season 2 include Asami Mizukawa as Aya, Masataka Kubota as Hinata, Sho Kaneda as Hidenobu, Takaaki Enoki as Lord Ito, and Jun Kunimura as Goda. They will co-star with returning stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, as well as Fumi Nikaido, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Horaguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno, and Yuka Kouri.

Season 1 directors Hiromi Kamata (Season 1, Episode 6 “Ladies of the Willow World”) and Takeshi Fukunaga (Season 1, Episode 7 “The Stick of Time”) will return to direct Season 2. Anthony Byrne, Kate Herron, and series co-creator Justin Marks are also set to direct episodes for season two.

Season 2 writers include co-creator Rachel Kondo, Marks, Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Meghan Huang, Emily Yoshida, Kailyn Puente, and Sophie Somolov.

According to the official logline, ‘Shogun’ season 2 is set 10 years after the events of season 1 and follows the historically inspired story of two men from different worlds whose destinies are inextricably intertwined.

“Shogun” is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell, created for television by Kondo and Marks, and produced by FX Productions. They will also serve as executive producers along with Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, Michael De Luca and Sanada. Jarvis will serve as co-executive producer along with Eriko Miyagawa.

Season 1 of “Shogun” broke the record for most Emmy Awards for a series in a single season with 18. Sanada became the first Japanese actor to win the Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Drama. Anna Sawai is the first Asian actress to win the award for Best Drama Leading Actress.
