Sharon Stone will not be censored.
The 67-year-old actress-turned-painter released a series of Instagram videos this week defending aging and nudity. That included a video she posted on Tuesday in which she recalled visiting an art studio in Los Angeles and being asked by a film crew to remove a nude painting from the frame.
“Should we be afraid when we look in the mirror?” Stone said in the video. “Why should we be afraid of ourselves as humans? That’s like the strangest idea in the world to me.”
The “Basic Instinct” star compared his body to real estate, adding, “Sorry, I wear it every day. I wake up in it, I sleep in it. It’s my apartment. I live here.”
“Why in 2026 are we still afraid of growing old and living our lives,” Stone wrote in the caption. She continued, “We are more than what we look like. We are artists, mothers, sisters, wives, nurses, teachers…the list goes on!”
The painting in question, which Stone called “Goddess,” depicted a naked woman. Stone challenged the double standards, writing, “We’re afraid of on-screen nudity, our bodies, our homes. But aren’t we afraid of violence and all the other things we’re constantly bombarded with, day in and day out? Get real!”
In a video posted last week, the outspoken star stood in front of the same portrait and made a statement celebrating the female body.
“We are the goddesses of creation…we create homes, we create families, we create everyone’s lives. And why should we be afraid of that?” she said, gesturing toward the painting. “That’s what made you.”
Famous friends like Courtney Love and Debi Mazar also expressed their support in the comments.
This isn’t the first time the Oscar-nominated actress has addressed society’s fear of growing older. In an interview with The Sunday Times in March 2025, Stone joked that she had “pleated armpits,” but reframed the change as a badge of honor.
“I think, ‘Yes, I had beautiful arms, and now they’re strong and picture-perfect, like angel wings,'” she told the outlet. “So what if they had pleats? Maybe that’s what makes them so great now.”
The Golden Globe winner also criticized people who are “ashamed of being older” as “stupid and ungrateful” in a January 2024 interview with the magazine.
“I love being alive and healthy,” she said at the time. “And I think we should all be very excited about achieving that, because I see any number of people not achieving it.”
Stone pivoted to visual art during the pandemic and has since had solo exhibitions in Connecticut, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Berlin, and her latest portrait series explores themes of loss and liberation.
The mother of three also returns to the big screen by starring in “Euphoria” Season 3, which premieres April 12 on HBO.
