Schoenell Jones said it was “tough” to be back at the show “today” four months after her husband, Uuche Ogier, died of cancer.
The TV personality got a glimpse into her and her three children (16, 16, and 13-year-old twins Clara and Ushu).
“Work comes and we’ll get through the first week of school, the first week of going back to work,” she shared, describing her return earlier this month as “fun.”
“When we got home on Friday, it was tough because we had nothing to bring ourselves together,” Jones (47) added.
“It’s like, ‘Oh, this is life.’ It’s kind of sucking. ”
“Saturday mornings were tough for me,” the TV host continued. “Saturday is when me and Ojeh look at each other and watch, ‘Oh, what a week.'”
“Usually, ‘Yeah, my God, Tuesday’s interview, I should have said this, or what’s wrong,’ Jones added.
“And the first week after me was tough because it was like my new normal,” she said.
Earlier this month, Jones returned to the “Today” show in a pre-taped interview, admitting that her “heart still hurts” after Ogier passed away.
In late 2024, Jones took a mysterious leave “to deal with the health of her family,” but did not reveal her husband’s cancer battle.
Then in May, “Today” host Savannah Guthrie announced that Ojeh had died “after a brave battle with an aggressive brain tumor called glioblastoma.”
“There is no word about the pain we feel for Chenel and her three young children,” she shared emotionally. “Ushu was an incredible person and we all loved him.”
At the time, Jones spoke to fans on Instagram and said, “Thank you for all your love and support.”
When the TV host returned to work in September, she shared that while choosing “spotlight,” Ojeh’s cancer diagnosis was kept secret because he was “extremely private.”
The couple had been married since September 2007.
