As part of the program line-up of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), three Shah Rukh Khan films will be screened in inflatable cinema format for the first time.

National Film Development Corporation and Entertainment Society of Goa will once again partner with mobile digital theater company PictureTime Digiplex for the inflatable cinema initiative for the festival, which will be held in Goa from November 20 to 28. This year’s program will see ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Darr’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ make their inflatable theatrical debut.

The slate is spread across four categories: Inspirational Movies, Indian Panoramic Classics, Nostalgia, and Children’s Movies. Contemporary titles include Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s The 12th Failure, Malayalam blockbuster Manjhummeru Boyz, Rajkummar Rao’s Srikanth, Rani Mukerji’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and Sooraj Barjatya’s Unchai.

Classic selections include Satyajit Ray’s ‘Shatranji Ke Khilari’, Meera Nair’s ‘Salam Bombay!’, Anup Singh’s ‘Kissa’, Vijay Anand’s ‘Tesri Manzil’, Yash Chopra’s ‘Chandni’ and ‘Kala Patal’, among others.

Daily children’s shows include ‘Kafal: Wild Berry’, ‘Gattu’, ‘Banarasi Jasoos’, ‘The Prince and the Stone Crown’ and ‘Naar 2’.

PictureTime will set up an inflatable theater at Kala Academy, one of IFFI’s main venue hubs, and run additional outdoor screenings at multiple venues in North and South Goa, making the festival’s program accessible to local residents.

“This year’s programming reflects the diversity and cultural richness of Indian cinema, from Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic classics to acclaimed contemporary titles such as ‘The 12th Failure’ and ‘Manjumel Boys’,” said Sushil Chaudhary, Founder and CEO, Picture Time Digiplex. “We are particularly excited about screenings designed for children and young students, because developing early audiences is essential to the future of filmgoing.”

Kala Academy’s inflatable theater is expected to accommodate more than 1,000 visitors each day, including international delegates, film professionals, student groups and film enthusiasts. Open-air screenings across Goa are expected to attract an additional 300-400 people per location each day.

PictureTime’s relationship with IFFI dates back to 2017, when the company hosted Bioscope Village at the festival.
