Seth Rogen has made enemies at the Television Academy.
During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “The Studio” star said he believes he’s been blacklisted from presenting at the Emmys because he went off script when presenting awards in 2021.
“I have a theory,” Rogen said. “I think it was around this time four years ago, I gave a presentation there and I still haven’t been invited.”
COVID-19 regulations were in full force for the 2021 awards ceremony. Still, Rogen recalled that safety measures weren’t as strict as promised, and he was forced into a tent with hundreds of others.
“First of all, there are too many people in this small room,” he explained. “What are we doing? They said we were outside. It’s not. They lied to us. We’re in a sealed tent right now. I wouldn’t have done this. Why is there a roof?”
He added, “It was true! They lied. They certainly lied. It said ‘outdoor event.'” And I was going to perform this ridiculous show that they had written for me, and I showed up, and I was like, “We’re in the tent.” You can’t ignore this… Eugene Levy is here! Are you going to kill Eugene Levy? I don’t want to do that. ”
Rogen said the producers were “ostensibly angry” with him afterward.
Jimmy Kimmel, the three-time Emmy host, attacked his guest, joking, “I’ve hosted the Emmys many times, and I just checked today, and yes, you’re not allowed to present.”
“I’m blacklisted,” Rogen replied. “I’m just like you. They’re trying to shut me up. You can’t win.”
Despite his tongue-in-cheek exasperation, Rogen admitted, “I went very off-book and gave them a bad impression. So I get it.”
Despite potentially being banned from winning an Emmy, Rogen certainly isn’t barred from winning an Emmy. Apple TV+’s industry comedy “The Studio,” which Rogen created and starred in, led the 2025 Emmy Awards with 13 total wins, including Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
