Soon after the multi-year slate finance partnership with IPR.VC, Red Bull Studios is increasing the output of a premium sports documentary project, including two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Saving Face”) and “Reggae Girlz,” co-directed by Trish Dalton.
“Reggae Girls” follows the Jamaican women’s football team, which took on the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and challenged the French and Brazilian powers in historic matches. The documentary depicts the heart and soul of Jamaican, featuring Bob Marley’s reggae music.
Obaid-Chinoy and Dalton opened Tribeca last year and last joined forces with the documentary “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge,” which was streamed on Disney+.
Red Bull Studios is also behind Jon Glassberg’s “Girl Climber,” which premiered on Mountain Film and released in October and partnered with IMAX for a one-night screening on August 24th. Girl Climber tells the story of professional climber Emily Harrington, who has peaked Everest at 8,000 meters and set his sights on the 24-hour rise of El Pitan in Yosemite.
Red Bull Studios recently released “Dakar: Reach Ater the Desert.” This has expressed the 2023 Dakar Rally through the perspectives of competitors facing brutal weather amidst other hurdles, including Carlos Sainz Sr., Sébastien Loeb, Nasser Al-Attiyah and Toby Price. The film was released by Universal.
The company has just released John Dower’s documentary, “The Ballonist,” Toronto, and will then bring it to the Zurich Film Festival. This document illustrates the journey of Swiss explorer Bertrand Picard and British flight instructor Brian Jones.
“Our upcoming slate emphasizes the spirit of adventure and freedom, especially when defining adventures as the exciting and unusual experiences needed in places no one has done before.” “This certainly applies to the great adventure of flying around the globe with a balloon for the first time, just as Emily Harrington and her journey as a girl climber,” Mandela continues.
The executive says that the banner is “looking for unique stories where people strive to achieve something that hasn’t been done before, and the focus is on human stories that unfold as they push these boundaries.”
The Red Bull Studios slate also includes “The Real Mo Farah,” Emmy nominee, SXSW Audience Award winner, “The Dawn Wall,” and Austin Film Festival Audies Award winner, Born To Fly, and athletics superstar Mondo Duplantis.
