“Theraps” podcaster and comedian Jake Shane has signed on to executive produce and star in a Hulu half-hour comedy based on his life. The series has been in development since the 20th TV series, starring Shane as a version of himself, and follows “his best friends as they navigate the chaotic new world of online fame, the strain it puts on their friendships, and the tensions their presence causes in a suburban neighborhood.”
Genevieve Aniello, the writer of “Hacks” and consulting producer of “High Potential,” will executive produce and write the untitled Jake Shane pilot, with Paul Briganti (“Saturday Night Live”) serving as director and executive producer. The pilot is based on an original story by Shane, Aniello and Briganti.
Additionally, Alec Berg (“Barry,” “Silicon Valley”) and his producing partner Amy Solomon will also executive produce in an overall deal with 20th.
Shane launched “Therapuss with Jake Shane” in January 2024, and the podcast quickly became one of the top shows on Spotify and Apple Podcasts’ 20th Anniversary list. Most recently, Shane won the 2025 Webby Award for Best Comedy Creator and was named one of Forbes’ Top Creators of 2025.
The show, currently in its second season, has recently featured guest appearances from Tate McRae, Lenny Rapp, Glen Powell, Charli XCX, Ben Platt, Ed Sheeran, Joe Jonas, Saweetie, Rosé, FKA Twigs, Katy Perry, Coco Jones, Lisa Rinna, Lea Michele, Lorde and Addison Rae.
“Therapuss” also led to this year’s “Live With Jake Shane” North American tour, which toured 36 cities including a Radio City Music Hall show featuring Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers of the “Las Culturistas” podcast. Shane has hosted guests such as The Chainsmokers and Alix Earle at other stops. (Shane also toured 21 cities with “Therapuss Live” in 2024.)
After touring last year, Shane will release his debut comedy album, Puss & Poems, in 2024, featuring 13 songs written and produced with his friend, record producer Alexander 23. The album, which featured guests Tate McRae, Jack Schlossberg, Snooki, and Joe Jonas, reached the top five on Billboard’s comedy chart.
Most recently, Shane made a recurring guest appearance on last season’s “The Hucks” as a social media manager.
