“SWAT”‘s upcoming 10-episode spinoff “SWAT Exiles,” led by star and executive producer Shemar Moore, is completing its cast roster. Added to the list of guest stars are Selma Blair (“Cruel Intentions”) and Jerry O’Connell (“Billions”). Additionally, Lenora Crichlow (“Bel-Air”) regularly joins the show.
Another original “SWAT” member is also signed on to stop by. David Lim played “Officer III Victor Tan” throughout the show’s eight seasons. Tan will join Moore and another SWAT alum, Jay Harrington (who played Sergeant “David Deacon” Kaye), in the penultimate episode of season one. Speaking of Harington, he is also set to direct an episode.
As previously announced, Harington and Patrick St. Esprit (who played “Commander Robert Hicks”) will appear in the premiere episode.
In addition to Moore, the new series also stars Lucy Barrett (“Deep Water”), Adaine Bradley (“Warfare”), Zyla Gorecki (“La Brea”), Freddie Miyares (“When They See Us”) and Ronen Rubinstein (“9-1-1: Lone Star”). Jason Nin is showrunner and executive producer. Other EPs include Moore, original film Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, James Scylla, and John Cowan. Sony Pictures TV is a producer and global distributor of new programming.
“SWAT Exiles” was born from the ashes of CBS’ “SWAT” last spring. The Eye network chose not to renew the show for a ninth season, even though the network has canceled and uncancelled SWAT several times in the past. But now, with the show still being an international hit, Sony Pictures TV decided to go it alone and create a 10-episode spinoff even before securing distribution, which they announced at an LA screening last year.
According to the studio, SWAT has been watched for “nearly 2 billion hours worldwide and is a top 10 series in 47 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Mexico and Australia.”
Sony has not yet announced a distribution deal for SWAT Exiles. “SWAT” is currently available on Netflix, Hulu, Pluto TV, Paramount+, and cable companies Sundance TV and WEtv.
“In this spin-off from Sony’s iconic SWAT IP, which has spawned multiple series and movies, after a high-profile mission goes unplanned, Daniel Hondo Harrelson (Moore) is pulled out of forced retirement to join a last-chance experimental SWAT team made up of untested and unpredictable young recruits. As he takes charge of the squad, Hondo must bridge the gap between generations, overcome conflicting personalities, and change direction.” The story promises to deliver the same high-stakes drama and intense action scenes that fans know and love, as a team of outsiders forms a team that can protect the city and save the program that shaped him.
Prime Minister Blair will be represented by Berlandi Nussbaum & Reitsas and Oren Segal. Mr. O’Connell is repped by CAA, 3 Arts Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham LLP.
