Selena Gomez revealed the best business advice she got from Taylor Swift yesterday at Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit Gomez called the Showgirls singer “one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met” The two stars have been friends for more than 17 years and are now both billionaires with successful careers.
During their 17-year friendship, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift also became highly successful billionaires. At Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit yesterday, Gomez revealed the important business advice that the former Showgirls singer’s life gave her.
Ellie Austin of Fortune magazine asked Gomez what the two stars learned from each other. Reflecting on what she has taught Swift, the Rare Beauty founder said:
She called the singer “one of the brightest people I’ve ever met. She’s so strong in her field and always gives great advice. I don’t know what else I can say I did for her other than being there as a friend, but there’s one thing that stuck with me and will always be there.” But she said, ‘If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.’ That’s why I’m surrounded by really great people. You have to learn and not be afraid of everything you might lose.”
The two friends just enjoyed a special milestone event together: Gomez’s wedding, where Swift gave a speech. Gomez shared a photo of them at the celebration and wrote, “In honor of SHOWGIRL… After almost 20 years, I’m happy to have you by my side, Gator! Love you @taylorswift forever and always.”
Ten days ago, Swift spoke on The Tonight Show about her impressions of Gomez on her wedding day, as well as what she said and didn’t say during her reception speech.
“Well, not only was she the most elegant and gorgeous bride, but I could see a vision of her that I had never seen before in my life,” Swift said. “I’ve never seen her as beautiful as she was on her wedding day, and she deserves this happiness. Benny[Blanco, Gomez’s husband]is — he is. He’s so funny. He’s the best. So I gave a speech, but I actually decided not to say anything about the engagement[to Travis Kelsey].”
“I don’t want anyone to think, ‘I know it’s a wedding, but I’m[engaged],'” she added. “You know, I was like, don’t mention that. You can flip[the engagement ring]over, you know what I mean? Today is her day. We had a little bit of a tease about how we dressed in 2008, when we met, because let me tell you, 2008 was a great year. And I talked about how happy I was for her and how beautiful it was. But I didn’t make it about myself.”
