Selena Gomez caught Martin texting her “The Only Murder in the Building” co-star, Meryl Streep, during the Emmy Awards.
In the video clip circulating through X, the former Disney Channel star who attended the show with his fiancee Benny Blanco appeared to peer down a few seats a little while as he was chatting with Steve Martin over the phone.
She then looks back at the swing and appears to be uttering the words “He’s texting Merrill.” She smiled disgusted at the secret expression as she told her future husband the news. The “Devil Wear Prada” star didn’t appear to be attending the Sunday ceremony.
Gomez, 33, is as short as the comedy-drama star alongside Martin, and the New York City podcaster unleashes a web of murder mystery in his historic building, Arconia. Streep co-starred as Short’s love interest, and the two appeared on the set of the show in May.
Streep, 76, and Short, 75, sparked real-life dating rumors after sitting in the Golden Globes in January 2024.
At the time, a Saturday Night Live alumni official told people they were “very good friends, nothing better.” Short also denied the rumor a month later.
“We’re not a couple. We’re very close friends,” he told Bilmerher on a February 2024 episode of the “Club Random” podcast.
The following August, they picked up the red carpet for the “The Building’s Only Murder” season 4 premiere, and have since been seen on multiple dinner dates around Los Angeles.
Despite the twitch on the topic, sources told Page 6 in March that the acting legend had been dating “more than a year now.”
“Merrill couldn’t help but fall into Martin,” the insider said at the time. “He’s a gentleman, he keeps her laughing, he’s a versatile, positive person. She loves being around him.”
The mother of four split from her longtime husband Don Gummer in 2018, and Short became a widow in 2010 after the death of his 30-year wife, Nancy Dolman.
Meanwhile, Gomez and Slanco are said to be heading towards the aisle this month. According to TMZ, the couple will get married in Montecito or Santa Barbara, Southern California.
