Selena Gomez candidly revealed the song her longtime friend Taylor Swift wrote about her.
“‘Dorothea’ is me,” the “Only Murders in the Building” star said Tuesday on her husband Benny Blanco’s “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast.
“I feel like there were a lot of big moments that defined me,” she said, reflecting on the songs on her 2020 album Evermore and how she and the Grammy winner met when they were 15 and 18, respectively.
Gomez, now 33, added: “We were thinking about everything from relationships to family, love to hate and everything in between.”
“We had no idea what was going on,” she continued. “We’ve never seen each other in completely different ways, so when I listen to this song, I’m so struck by how eloquently it expresses that.”
“Oh, you’re the queen,” Swift, now 36, sings in the song. “Sell dreams/Sell makeup and magazines/Oh, I’ll buy anything from you.”
Additionally, the actress shared that the hitmaker wrote a vault track titled “Family” about their friendship.
“It ended briefly 10 years ago, just by alluding to it in the lyrics, without quoting it, and basically just saying I have a wonderful dream,” Gomez recalled of the yet-to-be-released song.
“You want to be in the movie. I see you in the crowd,” she explained. “And her role was, you believe in my stupid dreams, like playing in the stadium.
“When I listen to these songs now, I think both of those things happened to us. And that’s really lovely, because at the time, she was just like, ‘This song was written about us, it’s really our story,’ and that was the sweetest thing.”
Gomez and Swift became close friends in 2008, when they both “dated the Jonas Brothers.”
“I dated Nick (Jonas) and she dated Joe (Jonas),” the Disney alum shared on the “Therapuss” podcast last August. “It was cute. We were young…we didn’t know what we were doing.”
Gomez gushed that she and the “Lover” songstress now “want to say the best thing[they]got out of that relationship was each other.”
When both couples broke up that same year, Gomez and Swift “like girls, they bonded over the breakup.”
The two have since become good friends, and the “Exile” singer was the centerpiece of Gomez and Blanco’s wedding last September.
Swift also reportedly asked Gomez to be a bridesmaid at her upcoming wedding to fiancé Travis Kelsey.
