Scarlett Johansson has finally admitted that the idea of a good work-life balance doesn’t exist.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Johansson said that despite accumulating a ton of success, there will always be a “deficit” somewhere in her life.
“I think actually admitting that you don’t have work-life balance is in some ways the first step to getting there, because that’s not possible,” the Marvel star began.
“There’s always something… there’s a flaw somewhere and I think I have to… I’ve learned to be kinder to myself. You can’t do all these things all the time. So, you know… just… is it enough?”
Over time, Johansson accepted that not everything in her life was always perfect.
Johansson is currently juggling her marriage to comedian Colin Jost, raising two children, launching a skincare brand, and taking on a role as an actor.
According to Forbes, Johansson earned $43 million in 2025, making her the highest-paid actress in 2025.
Her perspective on success has changed in recent years.
“Someone once said to me, ‘If you’re successful as a parent 75% of the time, that’s a good thing’ — if you’re doing it right 75% of the time, you’re winning, and that’s probably true,” Johansson told “CBS Sunday Morning.”
Johansson and Jost, a comedian and writer known for “Saturday Night Live,” married in October 2020. In August 2021, the couple welcomed their first son, Cosmo.
Marvel actress Johansson was previously married to actor Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011 and to French journalist Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017. Dauriac and Johansson have an 11-year-old daughter, Rose. This is Jost’s first marriage.
The “Black Widow” star came from a poor family. In a 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight, she admitted that six members of her family were on welfare.
“We were living on welfare and living on food stamps. My parents were raising four children in a low-income household in Manhattan, so it was tough,” Johansson said at the time.
Johansson quickly rose to fame in the early 2000s. In an interview with People magazine in April, the actress opened up about the challenges of being in the spotlight at such a young age.
“I think growing up in the entertainment industry and being in the spotlight as a 20-year-old woman in the early 2000s was a really rough time in general,” Johansson began.
“I think women were just separated because of their socially acceptable appearance at the time. It was tough,” she continued.
“There was a lot of emphasis on a woman’s appearance, and back then women of my generation had far less in terms of acting roles and opportunities than they do now.”
