Savannah Guthrie says ‘we’ll pay’ for her mother’s return

Savannah Guthrie shared another message with her mother’s abductor on Instagram Saturday afternoon, this time saying she and her family would pay for Nancy Guthrie’s return.

“We received your message and we understand it,” Guthrie said in the video, flanked by his brothers Annie and Camron. “We now ask you to return our mother to us and celebrate with us. This is the only way we can have peace. This is very precious to us and we will pay.”

Nancy Guthrie went missing from her Arizona home on January 31, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that her disappearance will be treated as a crime. Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS that investigators found “very concerning” evidence at the home.

“Yes, I think she was kidnapped,” he said. “She didn’t walk away from there. She wasn’t willing to go.”

On Thursday, the FBI, which is also investigating Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapping, offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.

“The FBI has agents, analysts and specialized staff working day and night with our partners in the Sheriff’s Office,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Heiss Janke said at a press conference. “We have deployed additional operatives and agents from our Phoenix office.”

Nanos also spoke at the press conference, saying authorities “have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in this case.” He also denied claims that forced entry was used to gain access to Nancy Guthrie’s home.

President Donald Trump, who ordered “all federal law enforcement agencies” to assist in the search for Nancy Guthrie, told reporters on Air Force One Friday night that the investigation was progressing “very well” and that “definitive” answers about what happened could be released within days.

“I think we’re doing very well in that regard,” he said. “You’d probably be surprised to hear that. I think we’re doing very well. I think we have some very strong leads, in a very good way. I think we’ll have some answers fairly soon.”

On Wednesday night, Savannah Guthrie posted an emotional video on her Instagram in which she and her two siblings, Annie and Camron, begged their mother’s kidnappers to give them any signs of life.

“She is 84 years old. Her health and heart are fragile. She lives in constant pain. She has no medicine. She needs medicine to survive and she needs medicine to not suffer,” Guthrie said. “We too have heard reports in the media about the ransom letter. We are doing everything we can as a family. We are ready to speak. But we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a shadow of a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and are ready to hear it.”
