Savannah Guthrie regretted asking Khloe Kardashian about rumors that the late Robert Kardashian Sr. wasn’t her real father.
During Monday’s episode of the “Today” show, the broadcast journalist was asked by a viewer if he had any major regrets in his career.
She immediately recalled the moment she ended up interviewing Khloe in 2012, saying producers wanted her to ask the “weird question” of whether O.J. Simpson was the reality TV star’s biological father.
“I asked Khloe Kardashian 10 seconds before she spoke about the rumors that her father wasn’t the father,” Guthrie explained, adding that she intentionally waited until the last moment because she was “so embarrassed.”
But she remembered Chloe treating the awkward situation like a “class act.”
“She was like, ‘Oh, it doesn’t matter,'” Guthrie recalled.
Guthrie’s embarrassing question came in the same year that people started speculating about Khloe’s father. At the time, many noted that she looked more like the former Buffalo Bills running back than her father or brother.
When the rumors reached a fever pitch, she was advised by her family to take a paternity test to silence the critics. However, during an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she refused to accept that her father was Robert Kardashian.
Since then, the Good Americans founder hasn’t shied away from addressing the rumors.
In 2017, when Simpson finished his sentence for an armed robbery in Las Vegas, she took to social media to shut down people who kept bringing up the rumors.
“Everyone is so extreme up, it’s so bad,” she replied via X (formerly Twitter) at the time. “Hehe, well…I’m happy, but you hate me.”
Simpson also shut down the topic on a 2022 episode of his podcast, The Full Send, saying, “That rumor is not true. It’s far from the truth.”
He also said that Kris Jenner was a “pretty girl” and “really nice,” but that she was “dating a supermodel.”
OJ was especially close friends with Robert, who was also his lawyer when he was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994.
Although he was ultimately acquitted a year later, a lawsuit filed by the family of Goldman, an aspiring actor, declared him responsible for Goldman’s death.
Meanwhile, Jenner and Robert, who were also close friends with Nicole, were married from 1978 to 1991 and welcomed Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Rob Jr. together.
Their marriage ended in 1989 when Chris confessed to Robert having an affair with soccer player Todd Waterman.
In 2003, the lawyer passed away after a battle with esophageal cancer. He was 59 years old. An NFL player also died of cancer in 2024 at the age of 76.
