Sarah Michelle Geller faced a backlash online after revealing that she was given to her daughter Charlotte, a “riskyly expensive” jeep on her 16th birthday.
Fans gathered in the comments section of the “Buffy” star’s Instagram post on Friday. She called for her “disappointing” parenting move, wanting to celebrate her teenage birthday.
“Happy birthday Charlotte… Don’t normalize giving a new young driver a ridiculously expensive car. I think you sadly took it from your wonderful daughter’s birthday,” wrote one social media user.
“I’m happy with you and Charlotte, but do 16-year-olds really need to be given a jeep for every car? A fuel gazler is one thing.
They continued: “It’s a shame when the wealthy don’t teach their descendants the value of money and hard work.”
“A truly great choice of the first car on the planet.. Burn fuel on the road with your off-road 4×4!” Third party has been added.
However, there were fans who came to defend the star “know what you did last summer.”
“We need to normalize that someone is light and jealous of having something you’re not doing!” one fan wrote back in response to some of the negative comments.
Another said the new vehicle was “not really that serious.”
“OMG! Why do parents feel like buying kids in the car? I got a new car when I was 16 and had to work.
“To be honest, it’s not our business. Let your kids continue with your day, happy birthday.”
Someone else simply added: “Can I stop regularizing a gift car?”
Gellar representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
In the caption of Gellar, she wrote an emotional message to her daughter and went with a carousel of photographs celebrating the life of her child.
“Sixteen years ago today, you made me a mom. The quote is… Your daughter is a little girl who grows up to be your best friend. Charlotte, you’re even more,” began Gellar.
“You are strong, you are inspiring, you are kind, you are as funny as me, and most importantly, you are kind and the best kind. I’m very fortunate to call you my best friend.
Geller shares her 16-year-old daughter with her 23-year-old husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. The couple is also the parents of their son Rocky.
