Sam Raimi told Total Film that Rachel McAdams was “underused” in the 2022 MCU sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and that he has “promised” to work with her again after that film. That commitment led Raimi to cast McAdams in his latest comedy-thriller, Send Help.
“First of all, she was the perfect person because she is such a great actress,” Raimi said. “I had the opportunity to work with her on a previous film and realized how talented and underutilized she is, so I vowed to work with her again. Then this film came to me. Her warmth is amazing.”
He added: “The fact that she’s never played a dark, scary villain before, which[producer Zainab Azizi]told me about, is going to be a real surprise to the audience.”
“Send Help” is the story of an underutilized and undervalued employee (McAdams) and her younger, foolish boss (Dylan O’Brien) whose toxic dynamics are reversed when they are stranded on a remote island. Other cast members include Dennis Haysbert, Edil Ismail, Xavier Samuel, Chris Pang, and Saneth Waraknukloh. This movie comes from Disney and the 20th century.
“Because the focus of this movie is not the criminal, but what happens next, and that’s what this movie really wants from the audience,” Raimi concluded. “They don’t know what’s around the corner. If they want to turn right, they turn left. That was the key element. She goes from this good person that we know and love to this horrible villain.”
“Help Me” is now being released nationwide.
