Sadie Robertson has described the terrifying moment her baby daughter Kit suffocated and temporarily stopped breathing.
On Saturday, the 28-year-old “Duck Dynasty” star recounted the horrifying experience in a post shared to Instagram.
“I know this is hard to talk about in real life, much less on social media, but I feel it’s worth sharing because I truly believe that awareness will save lives…” Robertson began.
“While I am currently wading through waves of anxiety due to the trauma of this situation, I am immensely grateful for the miracle of Kit’s full recovery and for God’s undeniable hand in this situation,” she continued. “I am taking a break from social media and am relying on my family and amazing team to help me for a while while I try to be of sanity.”
Ms Robertson went on to elaborate on the ordeal and said she wanted to raise awareness of the life-threatening emergencies that other parents may face.
“This week Kit was sitting in his high chair eating a snack while I finished making dinner and he started choking,” Robertson wrote. “Within seconds, I realized the seriousness of the situation. The moment she stopped breathing, my mother pulled her out of the high chair and placed her in my arms.”
“Everyone took action and started praying,” she continued. “My mom called 911 and I started CPR. Then everyone started praying out loud and started moving the other kids downstairs.”
Robertson recalled that instinct taking over as she relied on both what she had learned and her faith as she rushed to help her daughter.
“I’m one of those people who likes to be prepared for every situation, so I’ve watched a few videos hoping I never have to use this knowledge again,” Robertson wrote. “Now I can only describe it as if my body knew what to do. I felt the Spirit of God guiding me and working with me on what I had learned and seen. I remember saying out loud, ‘What should I do?’ And immediately began to do it and declare his life. ”
She continued: “After performing CPR following baby choking protocols, Kit miraculously started coughing and breathing just as the paramedics arrived… It was really scary, but God.”
“I got in the back seat of the ambulance with my daughter, still scared, but praising God.”
Robertson shares eight-month-old daughters Honey, 4, and Haven, 2, with her husband Christian Huff, whom she married in 2019.
The social media personality recalled Christian pointing out hopeful signs he noticed on the way to the hospital, explaining that Kit made a full recovery after an overnight stay.
“Christian was following me in his car and said there was a rainbow over the ambulance the entire time,” she wrote. “We stayed overnight for observation and after just a few hours she charmed the nurses and is now completely healthy and happy, brightening everyone’s day.”
She continued, “I shared this as a testimony and as an encouragement for everyone to learn what to do in an emergency situation. It all happened so quickly and I’m so grateful to be able to jump into action!”
“We know that God has placed our children in His hands. We cannot control their breath or even our own breath. We cannot live in fear…We must trust God in everything. And preparation and knowledge in the spiritual and physical sense can be gifts that you can give to yourself and your family. Please join us in thanking God for this miracle!” Robertson concluded.
In her post, Robertson shared a video of Kit lying on a porch swing with her and sleeping on her chest. The author of “Live Original” wrote “miracle” on the video along with a pigeon emoji.
Robertson and Hough are currently starring in the second season of the Duck Dynasty reboot, Duck Dynasty: The Revival, which premiered on March 7. The show follows the entire Robertson family as they navigate the next chapter of their lives, including Robertson and Kit’s pregnancy.
In an interview with FOX News Digital last month, Robertson and Huff admitted that their marriage has been “expanded” by the addition of their third child. Robertson said welcoming the kits forced her to give up the “brave face” she had been wearing.
The reality star, who started appearing on Duck Dynasty when she was 14, said it was simply easier for her to perform because she grew up with “cameras everywhere.”
“Just turn it on and you’re good to go,” she said. “Look, you can act as if everything is okay. If someone says hi, you just say, ‘I’m okay.’ And you can really put a smile on your face and look good. But when you have three kids, I feel like you can’t cheat. ”
“Sometimes I show up and they spit on me all over me. The kids are going crazy. And I’m like, oh, here we are in a mess,” she added. “I think that was a really great thing that we learned this year, that you can have people see that and be loved and relate to you without having to look polished or presentable. But it was something that swallowed our pride.”
