Sabrina Carpenter was the star of the colorful bob Mackey dress show she wore to the Studio 54-themed 2025 celebration on Sunday and was an afterparty.
The 26-year-old pop star paid tribute to iconic singer Cher when he left for the 1975 “Cheer Show” vintage costume originally worn by the “Believe” singer.
Now 79, Cher was first dressed in an elaborate outfit when he performed a duet in “Shame of Shame of Shame,” in which the sensational singer rocks a matching dress.
Carpenter styled a reflective, pink, black and turquoise dress with a full glamour makeup look, including enormous curls, silver platform pumps and babydoll eyelashes. She was decorated with a lab diamond hoop and a topaz cocktail ring, both decorated with a gorgeous earth.
Early in the evening, the “espresso” hitmaker wore a “swamp dress” in Mackie’s spring collection in 1986.
Mackie screamed at the Instagram musician for wearing his work, detailing the gorgeous dress he first left.
“The fully decorated cocktail dress is a naval trumpet beaded into black silk with multi-colored span coins and asymmetrical fringe hem,” he shared.
The legendary designer is known for his enveloping showgirl works that dominated the 70s and 80s, so considering her thematic dressing trends, it’s no surprise that Carpenter chose the show’s appearance.
Recently, the “Manchild” singer has been confirmed to be featured on Taylor Swift’s new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” On the album cover, Swift wears one of Mackie’s comprehensive costumes from the famous Sin City Spectacular “Jubilee!”
Carpenter’s new album, “Man’s Best Friend,” is inspired by the fashion and music aesthetics of the 70s and 80s, with many fans comparing the tracks to the tracks of hit makers like Ava and Madonna. The sparkly ensemble she wore in the VMA was very representative of those artists and decades of style.
The former Disney star also led Britney Spears during the performance of her new single, “Tears.” The iconic look of the Spears was also designed by Mackey.
Like Spears’ performance during his Dream Tour in a 2001 dream, Carpenter also danced on stage, drenched in the water.
As far as stylish tributes go, we have one word. It’s tears.
