Ray Romano will appear in a recurring role on Season 2 of Running Points, Variety has confirmed.
Romano will play coach Norm Stinson in the second season of the Netflix comedy. It was originally announced in September that Robert Townsend would be cast in the role, but the creative team decided to go in a different direction and recast Romano’s role. Reshoots are currently underway.
Stinson is described as a “basketball whiz turned recluse who teams up with Ira (Kate Hudson) to rediscover his love of the game and life.”
This is Romano’s second appearance in a recent Netflix comedy series. Previously, he starred in the streamer’s series “No Good Deed,” which debuted in 2024. Other recent television credits include “Made for Love,” “Bookie” and “Bupkis.” Romano is best known for starring in the self-titled sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which aired for nine seasons and remains popular to this day. In film, Romano recently appeared in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” and has also appeared in “The Big Sick” and the “Ice Age” animated film series.
He is repped by LBI Entertainment, The Conversation Company and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka.
“Running Point” originally debuted on Netflix in February and was quickly renewed for a second season. The show ended up spending five weeks on Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV chart.
The official logline for season 1 reads:
“After a scandal forces her brother to resign, Ira Gordon is named president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the oldest professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious but often overlooked, Ira will have to prove to her skeptical brother, the board of directors, and the larger sports community that she is the right choice for the job.”
Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen serve as writers and executive producers on Running Point, with Stassen also serving as showrunner. In addition to starring, Hudson will also serve as an executive producer. Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis also serve as executive producers, with Jordan Rambis serving as producer. The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling has an overall deal.
Deadline first reported Romano’s casting.
