The royal family reportedly expressed concerns about Meghan Markle’s “very sexy” role on Suits when she started dating Prince Harry.
“It’s difficult because it’s a monarchy. Her role in Suits was very sexy,” Eliza Roberts, wife of the Duchess of Sussex’s former Suits co-star Eric Roberts, told the Daily Mail.
The 73-year-old talent manager referenced Markle’s on-screen romance with Patrick J. Adams, who plays Michael Ross, adding: “For her to have sex with another man, just — they’d never seen anything like that.”
“She worked hard to get there. It was too much. Women don’t quit their jobs to get married anymore.”
Eliza said she understood Markle’s “intentions” given her break from her career at the time, but casting directors said the As Ever founder was “a young woman who needed to act.”
“Meghan is a star,” Eliza added. “From the moment I saw her, she just had star quality. It didn’t matter. It was always going to happen.”
Page Six reached out to Markle’s representatives and the royal family for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Markle, 44, played Rachel Zane on the USA Network hit drama for seven seasons until the end of 2017.
That same year, she became engaged to Harry. They got married in May 2018.
Markle quit acting to focus on her new role as a royal worker and her charity work.
But the 41-year-old Invictus Games founder and former host of the Archetype podcast left the royal family to move to the United States in 2020, where she now lives with her two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
Last November, Page Six reported that Markle had made a shocking return to acting by joining the cast of Close Personal Friends, starring Jack Quaid, Lily Collins, and Brie Larson.
Markle will reportedly play herself in the film, which follows two couples, one famous and one not.
On the first day of filming, a source told People magazine, the “With Love, Meghan Markle” alum introduced herself to everyone and made a great gesture by being “very kind and down-to-earth.”
In addition to “Suits,” Markle has also appeared in “General Hospital,” “Horror Bosses” and “Remember Me.”
