Rosie O’Donnell named Keanu Reeves as “one of the worst guests” on her talk show.
The former “Rosie O’Donnell Show” host didn’t mean to “throw the A-list actor under the bus” during an appearance on “Some Pan Tonight” Monday night, but he detailed why Reeves is “not good” in an on-air interview.
“I love this man,” the 63-year-old declared in a 1997 sit-down interview. “He’s very sweet, gorgeous-looking, and I love all his movies, but he wouldn’t answer any questions.”
“I’d say, ‘So, Keanu, how are you doing? How are you feeling?’ (He’d say) ‘Sure.’ We were live. We couldn’t reshoot it,” O’Donnell recalled.
“After three minutes, I finally said, ‘Keanu, this is a talk show. We need to talk.'”
O’Donnell, who doubled down on Reeves, 61, as “a wonderful man and a kind-hearted person,” said the “John Wick” star “certainly came back” to his show in 2001.
“So he got the hang of it,” the Emmy winner quipped.
When Reeves first appeared on O’Donnell’s show of the same name, she actually called him out for not opening up enough.
When the musician laughed at one of O’Donnell’s questions, she jokingly said, “Sorry, but you know this is a talk show. We have to ask a question.”
The former “View” host went on to ask, “You don’t do many shows like this? Do you hate it?”
“I’m not good around them, but it’s fun. It’s okay,” Reeves replied, and O’Donnell offered him a snack or a toy.
YouTube users praised O’Donnell for “putting the introverted” star at ease during the remaining 10 minutes of their chat.
One person wrote: “I like how[she]changed her strategy after finding out Keanu didn’t feel comfortable being questioned that much.”
Representatives for Mr. Reeves have not yet responded to Page Six’s request for comment.
In addition to naming Reeves on Monday, O’Donnell also called out Martin Short as the “best” guest on her show, which ran from 1996 to 2002.
She also praised Barbra Streisand as her “favorite.”
