The reunion we have all been waiting for is finally official. A sequel to Romy & Michele starring Oscar winner Mira Sorvino and Emmy winner Lisa Kudrow is currently in production.
In the 1997 cult classic comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” Sorvino and Kudrow played two struggling 28-year-olds who concoct false biographies to impress former classmates at their 10-year high school reunion. In the decades since then, the actors have continued to ask about a sequel, but last year it was reported that they were in final talks to star in the sequel, which will be directed and produced by Tim Federle (High School Musical: The Series) and written by Robin Schiff, who created the characters and wrote the screenplay for the original 1997 film.
The project has officially begun, with 20th Century Studios movies now available exclusively on Hulu as Hulu originals. The film is available on Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally.
In addition to Sorvino and Krudlow, Janine Garofalo (Heather), Alan Cumming (Sandy Frink), Camryn Manheim (Toby), and Julia Campbell (Christie) will also reprise their roles from the original film.
The cast includes Keegan-Michael Key (Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Only Murders in the Building), Rob Huebel (Five Star Weekend, Running Point), Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, Clueless), Patrick Warburton (Be the Movie), and Nathan Lee Graham (Mid-Century Modern, Theater Camp). The role of the new character is kept secret.
Producer Lawrence Mark is returning for the sequel, as is executive producer Barry Kemp. Sorvino, Kudrow and Schiff will also serve as executive producers. Kimberly McCullough will serve as co-producer. Sarah Shepherd is overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios. The creative team includes cinematographer Marco Fagnoli, production designer Hilary Gertler, returning costume designer Mona May, and editor Brian Olds.
Federle will be represented by CAA. Sorvino is an independent artist group and circle management + production. Kudrow by CAA, Viewpoint and Gochman Law Group.
Garofalo is repped by Gersh Agency, Independent Artist Media, and Kara Welker. Cumming by UTA and Bond Artist Management. Mannheim by Innovative Artists and Framework Entertainment. and innovative artist Campbell.
Key is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners, Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver Thompson, and Origin Public Relations. Huebel by Huben Entertainment, Innovative Artists, and Karl Austen.
