Robin Wright got into the familiar confusion of Derek and Julianne Hough being married.
In an awkward interview moment on the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet, Wright told the “Dancing with the Stars” pro that he thought his sister was actually his wife.
“Wait, are you Julian’s brother? I love her,” Wright, 59, asked Derek, 40, during a conversation on “Extra.”
“Can I tell you something? The first time I saw her dance, I thought, ‘They’re married.'”
“Sometimes that happens,” Derek admitted to Wright.
The “Forrest Gump” star continued to gush about the brother-sister duo and their dance video.
“You guys are great together. I follow you guys on Instagram and watch what you guys do,” she told Derek.
The choreographer thanked Wright for her kind words and turned the conversation to her Golden Globe nomination for her role in the Prime Video limited series “The Girlfriends.”
Derek and Julian are the youngest of five Hough children who grew up in a Mormon family in Utah.
The brother-sister duo rose to fame on “Dancing with the Stars.” Derek currently serves as a judge on the show alongside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, while Julian co-hosts with Alfonso Ribeiro.
In September 2025, Julianne opened up about how one of their early collaborations on the DWTS live tour caused turmoil in their relationship.
“Carrie Ann did all the choreography, and she made us dance the rumba together. Guys, that’s a dance of love that my brother and I got to do together,” she said on the Chicks in the Office podcast.
“Our names on the program were ‘Derek and Julianne Hough,’ so everyone thought we were married and dancing this rumba,” the pro dancer continued. “When people found out we were brother and sister? I remember there was one venue and they just said, ‘That’s not true!'”
Julianne was previously married to former NHL star Brooks Laich from 2017 to 2020, and dated Ryan Seacrest for three years before breaking up in 2013.
Derek married fellow dancer Hayley Erbert in 2023. Last month, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Everly.
“Welcome to the world, sweet angel Everly 💗,” Julian wrote in the comments section of the Instagram announcement, congratulating his brother and sister-in-law on announcing the special news.
