Rob Lowe is set to star in a drama series currently in production at NBC about the ins and outs of the US President’s Secret Service.
According to the official logline, the project is titled “The Detail,” and follows a group of elite agents tasked with protecting the president as they try to balance their careers and lives while protecting the nation and fending off the next imminent threat.
The project, written by writer and executive producer Jennifer E. McDevitt (Over the Moon, Goodbye Vitamin, Task Force 2), comes from UTV, a division of Universal Studios Group. Lowe will also serve as executive producer.
If “The Detail” goes to series, it would mark Lowe’s return to scripted broadcast television after starring in Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” for five consecutive seasons in February. Specifically for NBC, the show will be Lowe’s first regular series on the network since Parks and Recreation, and his first NBC drama since Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing.
In addition to NBC’s “The Detail,” Lowe is developing a sitcom project called “The Lamb” at ABC. It is described as a “workplace romantic comedy in which Rob Lowe plays a daily sports talk show host who falls in love with a new producer brought in to boost ratings.”
Lowe currently hosts and produces the Fox game show “The Floor” and is leading the fourth season of the popular interview podcast “Literally! With Rob Lowe.” Next, Lowe will co-star with Crispin Glover in the horror film The Third Parent, in which he will also serve as a producer. Additionally, he just finished production on the indie dark comedy The Musical alongside Tony Award winners Will Brill and Gillian Jacobs.
He is repped by WME, Brillstein, Latham & Watkins.
McDevitt is repped by Rise Management and Richter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Sikora & Clark.
