Ricky Gervais’ long-time partner Jane Fallon has revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The British author and TV producer, 65, revealed in an Instagram post on Thursday that she was diagnosed a month ago.
She said that, thankfully, the breast cancer was caught at a very early stage and the prognosis was “very good”.
“I had a routine mammogram the week before Christmas. I had no symptoms, but a good radiologist noticed something suspicious and sent me for further tests and eventually a biopsy,” she wrote. “Since then, I’ve had more mammograms, biopsies, and MRIs to help pinpoint the problem area.”
“It’s been really hard, I’m not going to lie,” she continued.
Fallon revealed that she is scheduled to undergo surgery in two weeks.
“Everything is going great because I have incredible care, but I don’t have much interest in anything other than audiobooks and jigsaw,” she added.
In addition to the selfie, Fallon also shared a picture of a teddy bear named Dr. Eric and her cat Pickles dressed in a nurse’s uniform.
She joked, “Dr. Eric is on duty. Nurse Pickle is wondering when lunch will be. ❤️❤️.”
Fallon and Gervais, 64, have been dating since 1982, having met as students at University College London.
The Post reported in 2008 that the couple bought an apartment together in Manhattan.
Back in 2018, Fallon shared the secret to their long-lasting relationship.
“In the words of Joan Collins, separate bathrooms are the secret to a happy relationship. But separate bedrooms can be a disaster!” she told the Daily Mail.
“Other than that, I don’t really know. It sounds pathetic, but we just have to get on with it,” she continued. “We have to be friends and we have to be able to laugh.”
She also said she didn’t feel it was necessary for her and Gervais to get married.
“We’re not married because neither of us makes a fuss,” she explained. “I think if either of us really cared we probably would have, but it wasn’t something either of us really needed.”
