Ricky Gervais’ next stand-up special will be released on Netflix on December 30th.
“Mortality,” which he has been touring since 2024, was filmed at the London Palladium in 2025. This is Gervais’ fourth stand-up special after “Humanity,” “Supernature,” and “Armageddon,” and he promises that “no topic is off-limits as Ricky closes out the year with his best show yet.”
According to the logline, “Gervais takes on his own mortality in a brutally honest and darkly funny stand-up special about his life, death, and the state of the world.” The provocative comic’s previous works have also touched on mortality, most notably the Netflix series “Afterlife,” about a man mourning the death of his wife.
“‘Morality’ is my most honest and confessional show to date, and it’s also my favorite tour. I still can’t believe what an honor it is to fly around the world and make people laugh,” Gervais said in a statement.
Gervais’ 2023 special “Armageddon” topped the Netflix charts and earned him a Golden Globe Award for the comedian. He completed an arena tour for “Mortality” in December ahead of the special’s release, and has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds to charity.
Mr. Gervais is known for co-creating and starring in the original British series “The Office,” which was later adapted into one of the most-watched American television series of all time. He won seven BAFTAs, two Emmy Awards, and hosted the Golden Globes five times, performing his famous monologues for Hollywood stardom audiences.
He has long partnered with Netflix on creative endeavors, and when Gervais came under fire in 2022 for jokes deemed anti-trans, streaming chief Ted Sarandos came to his defense, saying the comedian understands where the line is by “crossing the line from time to time.” Sarandos added: “I think having freedom of expression is very important to American culture in general.”
