Richard Gere will appear in the upcoming Apple TV limited series “The Off Weeks,” Variety has learned.
Gere will appear in the eight-episode series, along with previously announced stars Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain, and cast members Ariane Moaid and Annaleigh Ashford.
The show’s logline reads, “A divorce throws the life of writing professor Gus Adler (Stiller) into turmoil, and he struggles to hold things together during his ‘on week,’ during which he has custody of his children. But in his ‘off week,’ he falls into a dangerous romance with a mysterious woman, Stella West (Chastain), whose arrival puts Gus’ on-week duties and off-week ambitions on a deadly collision course.”
The exact details about Gere’s character are being kept secret. But this is the second major streaming show Gere has signed on to in recent years, following Paramount+’s spy thriller series The Agency: Central Intelligence. Gere is best known for her starring roles in films such as “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “American Gigolo,” “Pretty Woman,” “Primal Fear,” and “Chicago.” He received Golden Globe nominations for both “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Pretty Woman,” and won a Golden Globe Award for “Chicago.”
He is repped by WME, PMK Entertainment and Hersh Wallerstein.
Stiller will serve as executive producer on Red Hour alongside John Rescher. Chastain will serve as executive producer along with Freckles’ Kelly Carmichael. Alyssa Nutting (Made for Love, Teenage Euthanasia) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Michael Showalter will direct and develop the project in conjunction with Semiformal Productions and will serve as executive producer alongside Jordana Mollick. Paul Lee and Gabriel Fisher will serve as executive producers for wiip. Peter Principato, Allen Fisher and Brian Steinberg will serve as executive producers for Artist First.
