The youth drama “Rhythm is a Dancer” is heading to the American Film Market (AFM) for global sales.
The film, which marks actor Lauren Caster’s feature film debut, tells the story of “struggling dancer Lo (Caster), who returns to her hometown after years away to meet her biological father for the first time, confronts the complexities of her unconventional upbringing, and rediscovers her creativity through an unexpected friendship,” according to the official synopsis.
In addition to Caster, the cast of “Rhythm Is a Dancer” also includes Tate Donovan (“Rocketman,” “Argo”), Amy Aquino (“Bosch,” “The Good Fight”) and Floriana Lima (“The Punisher,” “Supergirl”).
Back in October, Rhythm Is a Dancer premiered at the Austin Film Festival, where it received an enthusiastic response from the audience. The film is currently seeking international sales and distribution companies.
Jerry Morley of HMJ72 Productions, executive producer of “Rhythm Is a Dancer,” is on site for an AFM meeting with potential partners.
Caster’s previous acting credits include recurring appearances on series such as “PlayStation Girl,” “HitRECord on TV,” “Stitchers” and “Dark Woods.” She has also written, produced, and starred in several short films, including “Baby Got Books,” “Donor Baby,” “Plan C,” and “Becoming.”
HMJ72 Productions is a Los Angeles-based independent film company founded by caster and producer Morley that primarily develops and produces emotionally resonant, character-driven stories.
A private industry screening of “Rhythm Is a Dancer” will be held on Thursday, November 13th and will be attended by cast members Donovan, Lima and Caster.
