“The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward “Eddie” Osefo, have been arrested on fraud charges, Page Six has confirmed.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Westminster, Maryland, told Page Six that the couple was taken into custody Thursday. However, they are in the process of being released after posting $50,000 bail each.
Wendy, 41, is charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and making false statements to a police officer.
She faces a total of 16 charges, including seven felony counts of false/misleading information fraud over $300, eight misdemeanor counts of false/misleading information fraud over $300, and a misdemeanor count of making false statements to a police officer, according to a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office public information officer.
Meanwhile, Eddie faces a total of 18 charges, including nine felony counts of fraud with false or misleading information over $300, eight misdemeanor counts of fraud with false or misleading information over $300, and a misdemeanor count of making false statements to a police officer.
The charges stem from a robbery the couple reported in April, which allegedly occurred during a family trip to Jamaica. At the time, Wendy claimed that many designer bags and jewelry were stolen.
However, according to documents obtained by US Weekly on Friday, authorities noted that “there was a broken screen on the roof and the windows were not locked,” and that “to gain access to the windows, one had to step on the toilet.”
“The toilet lid was down and there was no trash,” the document said. “When Sheriff’s Office personnel climbed onto the roof and returned to the home, they tracked the ‘sand’ from the roof back into the home.”
It continued: “The Osephos were equipped with an ADT system and a Ring camera. The Osephos activated the ADT alarm system when they went on vacation. No movement was detected inside the residence while they were away. The Ring cameras were monitoring activities such as package deliveries remotely.”
The documents state that Eddy went on to make statements to two insurance companies regarding a list of stolen items.
“He was asked if the items listed had been returned, which he denied. He was asked if he had other insurance, but he did not disclose to HomeSite and Jeweler that he was also billing Travelers Insurance,” the document said, adding that Eddie and Wendy signed a statement claiming $2,500 in building costs and $450,000 in real estate.
In the original complaint against the Travelers, lawyers said they were wearing anniversary bands at the time of the loss. However, he later called Travelers to update his claim because his wife’s gold diamond commemorative band was allegedly missing.
On the same day, the claim was settled for $25,380, including the replacement value of the band ($4,500).
Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies became suspicious of their report and investigated, found a photo posted on social media of Wendy allegedly wearing a ring, and discovered that the couple was “deeply in debt.”
Their investigation found that many of the items allegedly stolen had been purchased before being returned to the store and that “full refunds had been offered prior to the alleged robbery.”
After their arrest, photos of the two men were released, showing them smiling and wearing matching gray T-shirts, which appear to be prison attire.
Wendy wore no make-up, only false eyelashes, and was wearing a half-up, half-down look.
Page Six has reached out to representatives for Wendy, Eddie and Bravo, but has not yet received a response.
The reality star, who previously worked as a commentator on CNN and holds multiple college degrees, joined “RHOP” in 2020.
The Osephus’ arrests came shortly after another Potomac “housewife” got out of legal hot water.
In September, Page Six exclusively reported that Karen Huger was released after serving six months in prison for driving under the influence.
The reality star known as Potomac’s “Grand Dame” was found guilty of drunk driving in December 2024 after wrecking his Maserati in a high-speed crash earlier this year.
