“The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Ashley Darby has harshly criticized castmate Wendy Osefo after her shocking arrest for felony fraud.
Darby addressed Osefo’s legal issues on Friday during a performance at Mr. Henry’s in Washington, D.C.
In footage obtained by fans, the singer told the audience, “We’re making melodies, not felonies, you know what I mean.”
Darby continued to laugh as the crowd reacted in shock to the jab.
“I’m just throwing it out there,” she continued. “That’s what we’re doing here in case there’s any confusion. That’s all I’m doing here. I’m just making up melodies.”
“This is not news for us. This is news for you. Zeng Wen is in the pen,” he added, referring to Osefo’s nickname on the show.
Wendy and her husband Edward “Eddie” Osefo were arrested on Thursday on fraud charges, Page Six confirmed. They were released Friday on $50,000 bond each.
According to a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Wendy faces 16 charges, including seven counts of felony fraud with false or misleading information over $300, eight misdemeanor counts of fraud with false or misleading information over $300, and a misdemeanor count of making false statements to a police officer.
Meanwhile, Eddie faces a total of 18 charges, including nine felony counts of False/Misleading Information Fraud over $300, eight misdemeanor counts of False/Misleading Information Fraud over $300, and a misdemeanor count of False/Misleading Information Fraud over $300.
The charges stem from a robbery the couple reported in April 2024, in which Wendy, 41, claimed some of her designer bags and jewelry were stolen while she was on vacation in Jamaica.
But authorities have questioned the legitimacy of the theft, accusing the couple of lying to get insurance money in documents obtained by Us Weekly.
The couple’s ADT home security system and Ring cameras did not capture any suspicious activity, even though they recorded the package delivery, the documents state.
Investigators also allege that Eddie made statements to two separate insurance companies about the “stolen” merchandise without their knowledge.
Further allegations include Wendy being seen on social media wearing a ring she claims was stolen, and investigators also discovered that the Osefos were “in significant debt”.
Their investigation also found that numerous items the couple claimed were stolen had been returned to the store “with a full refund prior to the alleged robbery.”
A representative for the Osephus told Page Six on Friday that the couple had returned home with their families and were “doing well.”
“We appreciate the outpouring of concern and support from our friends, fans, and colleagues,” the rep said. “The Osefos look forward to their day in court with their defense team. At this time, they respectfully request privacy as they focus on their family and the upcoming legal process.”
