Glassriver, the leading Icelandic film and television production company behind “Reykjavik Noir”, has selected the bestselling “Conrad” series by Arnaldur Indolizon, the successful author of “Operation Napoleon” and “Jaa City”.
The banner creates a television series based on the seven book collection “Konrad”. The story follows a retired detective Reykjavík, who was troubled by his own troubled past, solving a cold case. Although he no longer works for the police, Conrad finds himself unable to ignore the unsolved crimes that continue to bother both the victim and his family.
This is the first adaptation of Indriðason’s work, and consists of the Detective Erlendur series translated into multiple languages, Operation Napoleon and Jacity. The latter two have been turned into films. “Jar City” became a Baltasar Kolmakur breakout film, wiping away five Icelandic EDDA awards, the equivalent of an Oscar.
Set in Reykjavík, “Konrad” is expected to feature Indriðason’s psychological thriller and a signature blend of Scandinavian noir.
Glassriver CEO and executive producer AndriÓmarsson said, “Arnaldur Indriðason’s legacy in crime fiction is respected all over the world.”
“The “Conrad” series is perfect for the growing slate of Grass River, digging into complex cold cases, reflecting the rich tapestry of Icelandic culture and solving important social issues that resonate with global audiences,” continues Ómarsson.
The “Konrad” series joins the slate of Glass River’s upscale Icelandic script show, in particular the thriller series “Manifesto” and the optional book “Reykjavik Noir” from bestselling author Lil Jasigurdald Thir.
Arnaldur Indriðason said, “I am confident that Glassriver will bring the Konrad Inspector’s story to the screen with the utmost care, highlighting not only the appeal of the story, but also the broader social value of these works.”
