Disney and Pixar’s animal adventure “Hoppers” continues to do well in its second weekend, but it was Universal’s tearful romance “Reminder of Him” that took the top spot on Friday.
Reminders of Him, the third big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, grossed $8 million from 3,402 theaters in North America on Friday. The domestic total is expected to reach $19 million by Sunday.
Reminders of Him, directed by Vanessa Caswill, stars Maika Monroe as Kenna, a woman trying hard to rebuild her life with her daughter after serving a prison sentence. Other cast members include Bradley Whitford, Tyrik Withers, Lauren Graham, Jennifer Robertson, and Rudy Pankow.
Director Hoover hopes to extend his box office winning streak with “Reminder of Him,” after his previous two books were both made into big hit movies. In 2024, Sony and Wayfarer Studios brought her 2016 novel It Ends With Us to the big screen, earning $351 million worldwide. Paramount then adapted her novel Regretting You into a film in the fall of 2025, grossing a solid $90 million worldwide from a $30 million production budget.
“The Hoppers” entered No. 2 on Friday with $7.1 million and is expected to earn about $30 million domestically by Sunday. This represents a significant 34% decrease from last week’s earnings. The North American total is expected to reach $86 million by the end of the week.
Hoppers had the best opening weekend for an original title since 2017’s Coco, ending Pixar’s nearly 10-year losing streak. The legendary animator has struggled to launch original IPs in the past, while making big profits from sequels like “Inside Head 2.” Movies like 2025’s Elio and 2020’s Onward didn’t stay in theaters long enough to justify their expensive production costs.
In third place on Friday was A24 newcomer “Undertone,” which earned an estimated $4.3 million from 2,570 stores domestically. The indie horror should earn $10 million by Sunday. “Undertones,” from writer-director Ian Tuason, follows Nina Kiri as a paranormal podcaster haunted by ghostly recordings. Other cast members include Adam DiMarco, Michelle Duque, Kiana Lynne Bastidas, Jeff Yong, and Ryan Turner.
Rounding out Friday’s top five were “Scream 7” and “GOAT.” “Scream 7” came in fourth place with $2.6 million. The Legacy horror sequel has collected $8.4 million through Sunday and is on track to gross $106 million in North America. “GOAT” came in at No. 5 on Friday with $1.2 million. The family film is expected to gross $4.7 million through Sunday, for a domestic total of $90.5 million.
