Regal Cineworld is rolling out new AI-powered movie viewing tools, becoming the first major exhibitor to launch a dedicated app within ChatGPT to streamline movie discovery and ticket purchasing.
Developed in partnership with The Boxoffice Company, the app allows users to conversationally ask what’s playing near them, showtimes for a particular movie, and receive real-time results including movie details, format, screening options, and more. Users are then directed to Regal’s website to complete their ticket purchase.
The move is aimed at simplifying the browse-to-buy path and integrating Showtime discovery directly into the conversational interface. Regal operates 5,386 screens in 394 locations in the U.S., and the company says the tool will enable more efficient selection of showtimes, seats and tickets across the company.
“Regal is excited to partner with The Box Office Company to bring the first movie ticketing app to ChatGPT to improve the moviegoer’s journey,” said Kelly Dowdy, Chief Digital Technology Officer, Regal Cineworld. “Modern moviegoers are typically early adopters of new technology, so we continually innovate and enhance our digital services, theaters, premium formats and moviegoer experiences to ensure our guests have a great experience every time they visit.”
Executives at The Boxoffice Company positioned the launch as a major step in marrying AI-driven recommendations with real-time commerce. CEO Stan Ruszkowski said the tool was designed to “turn AI conversations into movie tickets,” while managing director Marine Suttle described the tool as “a logical extension of our ‘Boost’ platform, ensuring every AI-driven recommendation is backed by real-time, accurate data, and is the first app of its kind.”
