Rebecca Ferguson has shared more details about her experience colliding with a male actor on set while filming a movie.
In 2024, Ferguson revealed on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast that he worked with an “idiot” co-star who made him cry after an argument.
The Mission: Impossible actress, who stars in Netflix’s new House of Dynamite, expanded on her earlier viral comments in a recent interview with Britain’s Times, recalling the time she worked with a difficult actor who “screamed” at her and walked off the set.
“This person literally looked at me and said, ‘You call yourself an actor?'” Ferguson recalls. She requested to leave the set the next day. “I remember being so scared. And I looked at him and said, ‘You can quit now. I’m going to try and get a tennis ball. I don’t want to see you again.'”
When asked if she had heard from the actor since her comments went viral, she said he hadn’t and “didn’t care,” adding that she knew others who worked with him “had a bad time, too.” She also called the situation “complicated” and “not without blame on her part.”
Ferguson added, “Sometimes you throw someone under the bus in front of the whole crew to make a point. I don’t admire my own actions like that. It’s a really difficult world. We put a lot of blame on bullies, and as you get older, it’s understandable that people get anxious. When you stand up for yourself, it’s really hard. They’ll fire you and give the job to someone else.”
She later admitted that her comments were not about Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman or Ryan Reynolds.
During the interview, Ferguson also reflected on his time co-starring with Cruise in Mission: Impossible, jokingly referring to the high-paid actor as a “manchild,” but insisting he meant it “in a good way.”
The two filmed three Mission: Impossible movies together, in which she detailed how demanding the role was.
“There’s no script and you have no idea where it’s going to go. It’s messy and boring and wonderful,” she explained. “I had been training for a stunt scene for months and then it was suddenly cut.”
Her next project is “Dune: Part Three,” in which she reprises her role as Lady Jessica. The actress, who is currently in the midst of filming, described the script as “phenomenal” in an interview.
Meanwhile, Ferguson plays another tough female character in Kathryn Bigelow’s latest film A House of Dynamite, playing a White House aide who is the head of the Situation Office overseeing the US response to nuclear threats.
Despite the events at the White House, the actress explained that the film is not intended to reflect the current political era, but instead raises questions about who has authority over nuclear weapons.
The film “is not about criticizing who’s in charge. It’s about questioning the fact that there are so many nuclear weapons in the world and we don’t talk about them,” she explained. “Nine countries have nuclear weapons, but only three are members of NATO. What does that mean? What does it mean that one person can start a nuclear war?”
