Jio Studios and B62 Studios are bringing Ranveer Singh’s Durandal back to theaters in an unusual international re-release from March 12, a week before its sequel Durandal: The Revenge releases on March 19.
The Bollywood blockbuster will be screened in around 500 screens around the world, including 250 locations in India from March 12 and 250 internationally from March 13. The re-release will allow audiences to see both films in the series back-to-back in theaters.
International re-releases of Hindi films remain a rarity, confirming the strong global demand for the franchise. The re-release will occupy 185 screens in North America and is expected to see strong demand ahead of the sequel’s release.
“Durandal: The Revenge” will be screened in the United States and Canada on Wednesday, March 18th, the day before its worldwide release. The advance show will feature a premium large-format auditorium with extra-large screens, advanced audio including Dolby Atmos, superior projection technology, and premium seating. This is the display format commonly employed by Hollywood’s major tent poles. Advance tickets for Wednesday screenings are already sold out in many places.
Dhurandhar is told in two parts, the first of which follows a decade of Indian intelligence as an undercover agent infiltrates Karachi’s criminal and political underworld. The sequel is expected to continue from the cliffhanger ending.
In the recently released trailer of the sequel, Ranveer Singh appears in a dual personality as Jaskirat and Hamza. R. Madhavan returns as strategist Ajay Sanyal, Arjun Rampal as ISI Major Iqbal and Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam. The preview highlights action set pieces and dramatic showdowns.
Aditya Dhar wrote, directed and produced the film. Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar will also produce. The sequel will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge will be released worldwide on March 19, coinciding with Gudi Padwa, Ugadi and Eid celebrations.
