100 Zeros, a production initiative of Range Media Partners and Google, is adding a variety of microdramas to its roster. This includes upcoming shows being developed by “Bachelor” creator Mike Fleiss, “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller and “Charlie’s Angels” director McG. This initiative comes as demand for vertical video continues to grow.
To support these projects, 100 Zeros has built an infrastructure that spans financing, production, distribution, and monetization across a wide range of video verticals. And while the soapy spirit of microdramas has driven the format’s popularity, 100 Zeros develops a variety of programming across genres and formats, including scripted, unscripted, serialized and bingeable content. Dozens of projects are currently in development.
Fleiss’ “Dateable” is part of the world’s first self-shot reality romance micro-drama and early stage. The show features single people who film their own journeys to love and document every part of their experience. McG, who also served as an executive producer on “The OC,” brings Orange County’s exclusive and scandalous world to the vertical with “Newport Beach,” while Fuller creates shows that focus on youth culture and the stories of breakout talent.
A comedic kidnapping micro-drama inspired by the 90s is also in development in partnership with Artist for Artists, Kenan Thompson and John Ryan Jr.’s production studio.
Once completed, the 100 Zeros microdrama slate will be available to watch on many platforms. The first look window will be available on the Google TV mobile app for Android smartphones, which recently started offering exclusive microdramas in the US.
On behalf of Range, Rachel Douglas, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Mark Herwick are overseeing this effort, with creative executives Casey Durant and Penny Lin focusing on the 100 Zeros project.
