Academy Award winner Rami Malek will be appearing in IRA Sachs’ upcoming film, The Man I Love. Set in the vibrant times of New York in the late 1980s, “The Man I Love” is described as “a musical fantasy of an obsessive city.” It is based on the script by Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias.

The film stars Tom Sturridge and Luther Ford alongside BAFTA nominees Rebecca Hall and Evon Moss Bachach.

Marek plays Jimmy George, a living downtown artist who says, “In an extraordinary moment between great illness and death, all beauty and love is still possible.”

Marek won an Oscar for his portrayal of queen frontman Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” His credits include “No Time to Diep,” “The Ritth Things,” and the TV series “Mr. Robot.” He will then face Russell Crowe from Sony Pictures Classic’s “Nuremberg,” which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and is due to be released in November.

Sturridge credits include “Far from the Madding Crowd” and “The Sandman.” He is then seen in “The Wizard of the Kremlin” and “The Water Chronology.” Ford is best known for playing Prince Harry in “The Crown,” and appears in “The Black Dub.” Hall appeared in the highly acclaimed “Christine” and also appeared in “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Iron Man 3.” She directed “Pass” and co-stars on Sachs’ “Peter Hujar’s Day.” Moss-Bachrach broke through with “The Bear” and starred in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” this summer.

Sachs is a well-known independent filmmaker, with credits including “Love Is Strange,” “Little Men,” and “Passages.”

The main photo shoots begin in New York in late September. Scott McGahee, David Siegel and Mike Spretter will be produced along with Miriam Schuler (“Sorry”) through the Big Creek Project. Big Creek previously produced “Friends” of Siegel & McGahee, starring Naomi Watts and Bill McGahee, released by Bleeker Street in April. Big Creek recently produced “Atropia,” which won the Sundance Grand Jue Award.

Saïd Ben Saïd and Misook Doolittle (The Trial of the Chicago 7), who worked on Sachs’ Passages, are also involved as producers.

Executive producers include Jack Heller and Cait Lind De Lisser Ellen from Assembly Media, Rowling McCalpin, Jonathan Weiner, Meredis Laurie from Merino films, and Lucas Joaquin and Kevin Tunny Weiss.

Malek is represented by WME, Brillstein, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Halls are represented by WME, Julian Belfrage Associates, Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox. Sturridge is represented by WME and Gang, Tire, Lamar, Brown and Passman. Moss-Bachrach is represented by WME, Barking Dog Entertainment and Peikoff Mahan Law Office. Ford is represented by the UTA and Hamilton Hodel. Sachs is represented by WME in Fusion Entertainment and 3B Law. Siegel & McGehee and Big Creek are represented by Blackem and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
