Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson revealed that a live-action adaptation of “Aristocats” has been presented. The film was originally scheduled to be directed by Thompson, and continues its winning streak of Disney’s live-action reconsideration project.
In an interview with “Score: Podcast,” Thompson revealed that the project was discarded by Disney. The news was revealed during a conversation between Kenny Holmes and Matt Schroeder. “I wanted to do (the Aristocats), but now I’ve got over 20 projects to do,” Thompson said. The musician revealed that he wanted to direct “The Aristocats,” but there are plans to work on four films over the next five years.
“Aristocats” tells the story of the Duchess and her three kitten family. When the cat is abandoned in the countryside far from home, the cat meets Thomas O’Malley, a street cat who decides to help him return to the heart of Paris. As the cat begins to approach, travelling through Paris and returning to its owner, they begin to encounter a variety of animals, such as jazz bands and ducks, in the alleys.
Previously, Questlove directed musical documentaries such as Summer of Soul, Ladies & Gentleman…50 Years of SNL Music, and more recently “Sly Lives! (aka Black Genius’s Badge)” Thompson has worked with Disney in the past when he played the role of Carly in Pete Dotter’s “Soul.”
